As I was getting ready for an open house this Fourth of July weekend, something unexpected happened. My 9-year-old daughter wandered into the room while Hamilton was playing. She has always loved musicals, but this time was different. Instead of simply enjoying the music, she became curious about the story. She started asking questions about what was happening, who the characters were and why they mattered. As I began explaining the history behind each scene, I watched her eyes light up with wonder.
Then something incredible happened.
For the first time, I wasn’t just watching Hamilton. I was watching it through her eyes.
It reminded me that history isn’t just something we read in books. It’s a collection of stories, sacrifices, dreams, and people who shaped the nation we call home. Sharing those moments with my daughter made me appreciate our country’s story in an entirely new way.
This year feels especially meaningful as America celebrates its 250th anniversary. Just a few weeks ago, I had the incredible honor of serving on a national level with Women’s Council of Realtors® in Washington, D.C. Standing in our nation’s capital during such a historic milestone was something I will never forget. It reminded me how fortunate I am to serve my profession, my community, and the place I proudly call home.
As the daughter of immigrant parents, this experience touched my heart in ways I can’t fully describe. It reminded me of the opportunities my family has been blessed with and the sacrifices that made those opportunities possible. I am grateful for the freedoms we enjoy, the career I love, the community I serve, and the legacy my husband and I are building for our children.
Watching Hamilton together created a new bond between my daughter and me. My hope is that she continues to explore musical theater, develops a love for history, and discovers the power of storytelling. Whether or not she steps onto a stage someday, I hope she always remembers that learning where we came from helps us understand where we’re going.
As we celebrate Independence Day, I’m reminded that our nation’s story was built by people from many backgrounds who believed in creating something greater than themselves. Their courage, perseverance, and vision continue to inspire generations, including my own family.
From my family to yours, I wish you a joyful and safe Fourth of July.
May we never take for granted the freedoms we enjoy, may we continue to invest in our communities, and may we always pass along the stories that remind the next generation why they matter.
Happy Fourth of July! 🇺🇸
